The Elders, UK
A film by Lisa May Thomas
Bristol has one of the oldest and most established Black communities in the United Kingdom. This film celebrates The Elders - their community, history and culture - through song, rhythm, music, dance and memories. Having worked closely with The Elders over two years, film-maker Lisa May Thomas evokes beautifully their individual and collective experiences, from arrival by boat or plane in the 1950s to growing old gracefully in Britain today.

W h o l e H e a r t
Stunningly sensorial
Contemporary Magazine, London
Silver Award - Best Cinematography Australian Cinematographers Society November 2005
Shortlisted- Best Dance on Film
Ausdance 2005 Australian Dance Awards
Whole Heart (2005) by Tracie Mitchell, tucks velveteen photography of abstracted body and location, and absorbed minimal dance movement, within a
neat cinematic beginning and end. In a luscious midnight palette of dark blues and reds an eminently sensual relationship emerges between a fragile dancing body and the walls and spaces of a shadowed, deserted house. With restricted
views of the face, the body plays a major role in expression, which succeeds on film. Simple imagery, such as hands running over ancient walls covered in layers of torn patterned paper, is effective and moving as a dancer's physical openness and diction, exquisitely lit, creates a stunningly sensorial and tactile quality. Lizzy Le Quesne Contemporary Magazine Issue 75 London.
