Call for Entries

Video dance entries are now being accepted for the first annual International Video Dance Festival of Le Breuil, sponsored by the National Theatre of France and the City of Le Breuil (Burgundy).

In addition, we are seeking dance photography submissions and a limited number of screen dance installations to be considered for an exhibition that will run in conjunction with the festival screenings. While we are not accepting documentaries, any other genre or screen dance format will be considered, including works that may not traditionally be thought of as "dance", but capture a strong sense of the way images are choreographed on camera and/or the manner in which movement is navigated in a time-based medium.

SCREENDANCE: STATE OF THE ART 2 | USA

CURATING THE PRACTICE/ CURATING AS PRACTICE: July 10-13, 2008, at the American Dance Festival, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina ANNOUNCES AN INTIMATE DISCUSSION WITH MEREDITH MONK preceeded by a screening of Monk's influential 1981 film, Ellis Island

The American Dance Festival is pleased to announce An Intimate Discussion about dance and the moving image with Meredith Monk as part of Screendance: The State of the Art 2, Curating the Practice/ Curating as Practice.

The discussion will be moderated by Douglas Rosenberg and is a rare opportunity to hear renowned interdisciplinary artist Meredith Monk speak about her pioneering work in film from her earliest works made in the mid 1960's through the haunting and elegant later films including Ellis Island and Book of Days.

The event will be preceeded by a rare screening of Monk's award winning and genre-bending 1981 film, Ellis Island. Monk's groundbreaking work in film is visually rich and deeply moving as it addresses issues of loss, displacement and community through starkly wrought metaphorical tableaus.

Meredith Monk is a composer, singer, director/choreographer and creator of new opera, music theater works, films and installations. A pioneer in what is now called "extended vocal technique" and "interdisciplinary performance", Monk creates works that thrive at the intersection of music and movement, image and object, light and sound in an effort to discover and weave together new modes of perception.

DOTMOV FESTIVAL 2008

Online magazine SHIFT presents DOTMOV Festival 2008, a digital film festival aiming to discover talented creators and provide them with an opportunity to show their works.
Works submitted from all over the world will be screened throughout the world venues from November 2008 (Date will be different depending on the venue). Last year's total submission was 297 works from 34 countries.

This year's tour will be Sapporo, Sendai, Shizuoka, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka and Sao Paulo.
